Made in the Midlands members were informed about the latest developments in Machine Safety legislation when they attended the latest MIM breakfast networking event.

Host for the occasion was Corby-based automation solutions specialist, Pilz Automation.

After the regular networking and 60-second presentations, members were shown around the premises and given a taster session on the current Machinery Safety legislation and the issues surrounding it.

Amongst the members attending were: Laser Process, Alloy Heat Treat, My Workwear, TLM  Laser, Metal Craft Industries and Mackart Additive.

Steve Farrow, managing director of Pilz, said: “This was a very enjoyable event and we got a lot of positive feedback from the members attending.

“It was good to be able to host the event and to explain a little more about what we do here and it can benefit members.”

Much of the work carried out by the firm is in line with current industry trends towards Industry 4.0 and the drive towards digitalisation.

Pilz is supporting the MIM campaign highlighting the need for manufacturers to embrace the opportunities offered by 4.0.

Steve Farrow is one of the members sitting on the Industry 4.0 Advisory Board, which is helping to define a road map members can adopt to help them navigate the path to digitalisation.

“It’s good to be able to offer members the benefit of our experience and I’m looking forward to the next round of board meetings,” he said.

Steve McCarthy, of Mackart Additive, is vice chair of the Industry 4.0 board, and was another to attend the Pilz event.

“It was very interesting to see the kind of work Pilz is doing and how it is benefiting companies,” he said.

“I’m sure the input into the board will be very beneficial.”

Ian Perks, of Alloy Heat Treatment, was another to have found the networking event useful.

He said: “I really enjoyed the event and found what Pilz are doing very interesting, so much so that I have asked them to come in and carry out one of their audits.”
